THE SPACE FOR STORIES: TREE.The space for stories is an exploration of Space, particularly surrounding the Japanese concept of "MA" and the importance of negative space. My exploration spans across various mediums, referencing painting, photography, drawing, and film. Film, in particular, has been instrumental in my work, as it has provided valuable insights into understanding the sense of drama inherent in space and conveying "MA”.

“MA" and negative space are interchangeable concepts that extend far beyond the confines of art, permeating into our everyday lives. Liminality, pause, transition, and in-betweenness are all ideas within the concept of “MA”.  My curiosity was focused on exploring the dynamics of Space and its potential to serve as a vessel for allegorical representation and narratives. It led me to explore harnessing negative space as a vessel for story. I played with the figurative idea and the literal expression of negative space choosing trees as my object of access and to represent the ideas I am working through.
